This Week I am grateful for the big little Things

This week is simple. Back to basics.

And as illustrator Monika Forsberg says so beautifully in her contribution to our ‘This Grateful Now’ Journal: “Little things make big days.”

So what ARE the big little things?

The big little things are the things that we so easily take for granted and walk/talk/think past on an everyday basis – Things that we have become so familiar with that we don’t see their amazingness anymore. It’s an evolutionary thing as well… We can’t really look at a beautiful flower for too long, if there’s the danger of a tiger in the bush. So what a luxury we’ve actually been given these days that we live safely enough to revel in the good stuff for as long as we want to! (sadly it’s not everywhere like this!)

Especially now in a world of constant change and uncertainty, seeing and appreciating the little things in life will help us stay calm and keep anxiety at bay. In the rush of doing, achieving and going, we will find moment of simply BEING – with a peaceful feeling inside that there is goodness ever present.

In a way we prepare ourselves for any bad times also. Those little things can be the very things that will pull us through the harder days, keeping us believing in the goodness of life… Giving our brain and heart a little head start seems a very sensible thing to do for our wellbeing, optimism and happiness.

“Every time you take in the good, you build a little bit of neural structure. Doing this a few times a day—for months and even years—will gradually change your brain, and how you feel and act, in far-reaching ways.”

Let’s get our grateful neural structures rolling!

I make a start… let’s be spontaneous! I have water to drink, a bed to sleep in, I don’t have any pain, I have a computer and internet to connect with you, I breathe, it has rained and nature is sighing in relief, my coffee was super delicious today, I’m going to book a trip to London later on today, there’s the village fun fair coming this week, I am loved, I love, my heart beats loyally (OMG, thank you!), I have an umbrella or I can walk in the rain, I have a choice, I have time for self care, my parents are ok today, I can smell, feel, taste, hear (not that well, but I can) and see! I stroked a cat today, I’ve giggled today, I have food,…

I could actually go on…. but… Now YOU 🙂

You can share it here.
